Chiropractic Care for the whole family
Adults are not the only individuals who may benefit from chiropractic care. According to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, spinal adjustments are an option for children of all ages, including infants. In addition to addressing digestive disorders and upper respiratory tract infections, chiropractic care may be able to aid your children in overcoming the symptoms of earaches and colic. Parents of young children have also reported enhanced sleep, decreased episodes of distress and stronger immune systems following spinal adjustments.
Spinal adjustments involves moving a joint beyonds it usual range of motion, to correct a vertebral misalignments that are causing pressure on the nervous system. When this pressure is removed, proper nervous system function is restored, resulting in reduced pain and inflammation and improved functioning of the body. Spinal adjustments are effective for decreasing or eliminating acute pain and conditions associated with trauma and/or injury. Periodic maintenance adjustments are also effective for maintaining optimal health and functioning of your body even when you have not been injured.
During a typical Chiropractic care visit, the patient is placed into a specific position to treat affected areas. Most of these positions involve lying on a padded chiropractic adjusting table and Dr. Mullanack using his hands to apply a controlled force to a joint. Often times this realignment on the joint surfaces is accompanied by a popping sound which is the release of nitrogen gas within the joint, and it completely normal. Nothing actually cracks or breaks.
Chiropractic care is divided into three common phases, Acute relief care, corrective rehabilitative care, and preventative maintenance wellness care.
Acute relief care is why most patients make their first visits. During this phase of care, the main objective is to reduce discomfort and stabilize the affected area in the shortest amount of time. Pain reduction is usually the fastest in this phase of care and most patients may come in several times over a short period. Pain relief may be experienced in as little as a few days or up to a month, depending on the specific condition.
During the next phase of chiropractic care, the corrective rehabilitative stage, Dr. Mullanack typically seeks to correct any underlying injury or cause of discomfort and improve neuro-musculoskeletal function. Typically, office visits are spaced further apart during this phase, and home based stretches and exercises are recommended to further enhance proper form and function. Optimal health can be also be aided by proper nutrition and modifications of activities of daily living and habits.
The last phase of Chiropractic care treatment is designed to help you maintain your overall health and well being, encourage normal spinal function and prevent the return of the original condition. Maintaining the proper alignment of the spine in the absence of pain through regular check up visits can help you stay healthy, vibrant and free from pain. Many patients treat their Chiropractic care program like their dental check up. It may take some time and effort to maintaining a healthy spine, but the benefit of prevention and maintenance can go a long way in reducing the rate of degeneration on the spine and the joints of the body.
